All of us in the hospitality industry will unfortunately have to make some difficult decisions now and in the coming weeks and we hope to see government take appropriate measures to help businesses stay in business when they are unable to trade.
Restaurants, Hotels, Bars can continue to make sales on a reduced level but must adapt first to operate within their means. We are currently experiencing a temporary change to consumer habits which will last weeks, maybe months, however dining habits should eventually return closer to the level we are accustomed to. Below are some ideas to help adjust operations and maintain revenue during this period of transition…
When Welcoming Dine-In Customers
Address customer concerns by:
- Increased space between tables by placing reserved signs on tables to separate
- Allocate dedicated door-openers so guests do not have to touch door handles
- Print disposable menus
- Offer decanted condiments for single use
- Remove all additional items on the table or bill holders etc
- Demonstrate gratitude for support by offering voucher for return discount
- Assure sanitation on social platforms, on newsletters and your website
When Transitioning to Takeaway Model
Promote customer orders by:
- Offering free delivery to local area
- Ensure no-contact collection at restaurant
- Request free delivery on your delivery third parties
- Ensure your listing on the delivery third party websites are up to date and complete
- Promote your menu items that travel better than others
