Sagamore Spirit Wins One of Only Eight Master Medals Awarded at First UK Blind Tasting
We are pleased to announce that our client Maryland distillery, Sagamore Spirit, has been awarded a Master medal for their Double Oak Rye at The Drinks Business & The Spirits Business Spring Blind Tasting 2021.
The Blind Tasting saw 106 entries from 50 different companies from across the world of wine and spirits come together for a collaborative blind tasting with judging divided into 19 separate competitions to ensure each spirits category is given the utmost attention by specialised judges including journalists, retail buyers, bartenders and educators.
This is a triumphant result for the Maryland distillery who not only entered a UK tasting competition for the very first time but was the only distillery in the category to be awarded a Masters medal.
“We’ve always believed in the excellence of our products, and it’s great to see our Maryland-style rye is making waves and changing palates. I couldn’t be more proud of our distillers and our entire team for making Double Oak the amazing whiskey it is, and for leading the Maryland-style rye revival in the USA and beyond” said Brian Treacy, president of Sagamore Spirit.

Tasting Notes
The secret to this Double Oak Rye Whiskey from Sagamore Spirit is 18-months of extended aging time in toasted wave stave barrels, making this whiskey at least seven-years-old. Delightful notes of caramel, honey, hazelnut, and pecan explode on the palate.

About Sagamore Spirit
Sagamore Spirit is committed to inspiring a global passion for Maryland Rye Whiskey. Its award-winning five-acre waterfront distillery in Baltimore is reclaiming the city’s rightful place in America’s whiskey history, where storied distillers perfected rye whiskey for more than 150 years before Kentucky was founded.
Maryland Rye Whiskey was known to be full bodied yet notably more approachable than other regional rye styles, and Sagamore Spirit has picked up the torch. Its straight rye whiskies have earned more than 100 awards internationally, including “World’s Best Rye Whiskey” in 2019 at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Sagamore Spirit’s distillation team blends two different rye mash bills – a high rye and a low rye – and then adds pure Maryland limestone-filtered spring water, transported 22 miles from Sagamore Farm, to craft the brand’s Signature 83-proof Maryland-Style Rye Whiskey.
